Mediachest

Student Analysis
- Mediachest is a virtual community where you can borrow your friends' movies, books, or other media items. You list the media items you are willing to loan, and then add friends. The database keeps track of the items you have listed, so you always know who has them. It relies on a trust system, much like Ebay, to determine who you can trust to return the items. A complete borrowing history can be easily viewed for members. Mediachest also has a selling system so you can get rid of the old things you no longer want.
- This is sort of like a borrowing system based on top of a social networking service.
- Mediachest also has groups where peole join based on similar interests. Examples include: XBox users, Atlanta, and Germany.

Student Opinions
- People form close relationships with others who share their same interests.
- Mediachest uses game theory in their trust system. An individual gains more personally by simply keeping the item they were loaned, but the chances that anyone will ever loan them an item again are diminished. Cooperation would be returning and borrowing items to one another; not ripping each other off. Defection would be keeping the items for one's own personal gain at the cost of trust.
